3M Scotchgard™

3M Scotchgard™ is a product of the 3M™ Company. It is used to treat carpet and furniture coverings to repel stains and keep the material clean over a longer period of time. It is applied over wet surfaces. It is also typically commercially purchased in a concentrated form from 3M and mixed with water before application on wet carpet/furniture. Application of 3M Scotchgard™ after cleaning is applied to protect from the carpet from stains and excessive soiling.

Cleaner, Fresher and Brighter, Longer

Stoll Rug currently uses only 3M Scotchgard™ to treat carpets and furniture fabrics. According to 3M™, 3M Scotchgard™ Protector Advanced Repel Technology for carpet “uses a unique, patented one-step co-exhaustion application process that treats the entire carpet — from the tips of the fiber all the way to the carpet backing — to deliver superb repellency. Carpets treated with Scotchgard™ Protector Advanced Repel Technology are more resistant to staining and soiling and easier to clean.”

3M Scotchgard™ creates an “invisible shield,” protecting your carpet against dirt and soil. This allows your vacuum to pick that dirt and soil up easier. 3M Scotchgard™ also provides “deep-down” protection, increasing your carpets stain resistance and allowing it to look cleaner, fresher and brighter, longer.

Beware of Rip-Offs

A very common ripoff in the carpet cleaning field is the use of “3M Scotchgard™.”

Ways To Spot A Fake

Sometimes a cleaner will advertise a product with a name similar to “3M Scotchgard™,” but the spelling of the name will be slightly different; such as “Scotchguard.” This is usually an inferior product with a lesser cost to the cleaner and ultimately to the expense of the client. Stoll Rug and Furniture Cleaners uses authentic 3M Scotchgard™ on its customers fabrics.

Another common ripoff is when a cleaner will improperly mix the product, which requires a specific ratio of water to cleaner to be effective for the intended purpose for which it is being applied.

One test to determine proper application is to wait for the rug/fabric to dry, then apply a small amount of water to the treated rug/fabric. If the water beads up on the tips of the fibers, the 3M Scotchgard™ is doing its job. If it soaks in rapidly, the material was probably improperly treated by the cleaner. Please contact Stoll Rug and Furniture Cleaners today if you have any questions.
